My career as a police officer began in 1981 when I joined the United States Air Force as a Law Enforcement Specialist. After serving two years at Hahn Air Base in Germany, I returned to the United States and was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base, Texas. An overseas assignment to Korea and then another assignment to south Florida me to leave Texas for several years.
After 11 years of military law enforcement, I was honorably discharged and returned to Texas. It was here that I attended the Tarrant County Junior College, Criminal Justice Training Center and graduated as the Valedictorian and Distinguished Recruit of Class 54B in December 1992. Shortly after graduation, I began work as a patrol officer for the City of Burleson. I was promoted to the rank of Corporal in October 1996 and then to Sergeant in January 1999. I am currently the senior sergeant at the Burleson Police Department and serve the citizens of Burleson as a first watch patrol supervisor.
I hold a Master TCLEOSE Peace Officer's certificate. I am also a Field Training Sergeant, TCLEOSE Instructor, Standardized Field Sobriety Test Practitioner, Mental Health Peace Officer and an Intoxilyzer Operator. I also serve as the team leader for the Burleson Police Department's crisis negotiations team.
The Texas Police Central (TPC) web site has been in existence in various forms since around 1995. Previously known as the Cop Shop then the Texas Cop Shop, TPC evolved into one of the most popular site in Texas for obtaining information on law enforcement in the Lone Star State. Because this has always been a one person operation, the frequency of updates and revisions has been dependant on my schedule and other work and family activities.
I am married and have two girls. In my "spare" time, I enjoy computers, computer graphics, web page design and digital photography. I also enjoys oil painting, camping, boating, and collecting antique pocket knives. If theses things didn’t shout out “geek” to you, knowing I am a diehard Caprica and Battlestar Galactica fan should. With my pocket protector firmly in place and masking tape holding my glasses together, I invite you to contact me at rsherman@burlesontx.com or bob309a@gmail.com.
