Crime Stoppers Tarrant County

Craig Hanking Memorial Golf Tournament

In August of 1994, a young police officer named Craig Hanking had his life as well as a promising career cut short. Craig was involved in a fatal automobile accident while answering a call to assist a fellow officer. During the time Craig was "on the streets", he developed a reputation as a caring police officer, and strove to do the best job possible, by making his contacts with the citizens of Arlington positive.

The accident, which caused Craig's life to end so abruptly, has been used to create a memorial fund. The purpose of this fund is to provide immediate financial assistance to the officers of Tarrant County and their families. This fund is utilized when an officer loses his or her life in the line of duty, suffers a serious injury, or endures debilitating illness, while employed as a peace officer in Tarrant County.

The Arlington Police Association, and Tarrant County Crime Stoppers have combined forces to continue this memorial fund. Over the years, an overwhelming amount of support from the citizens and business community of Tarrant County has enabled this fund to make $500.00 donations to those officers seriously injured and $1,000.00 to families of officers who died in the line of duty.

Each year the Craig Hanking Memorial Golf Tournament is held at various golf courses in Tarrant County.

San Antonio 100 Club

The 100 Club of San Antonio

In July 1973, a group of concerned citizens founded "The 100 Club of San Antonio." Each member annually donates $100 or more to this non-profit organization. The fund is utilized when a city police officer, paid firefighter, or county sheriff's officer is employed by or within Bexar county is killed in the line of duty.

When a tragedy takes the life of one of these individuals, the money is used to assist the surviving spouse and dependent children. The 100 Club quickly delivers a check to the family to provide them with funding for their immediately incurred financial burden.

In the case of dependent children, the Club establishes individual trust funds. Annually these trusts are increased by the additional monies collected throughout the year from donations and club dues. The proceeds from their trust fund is made available to the children when they turn 18 years of age.

The club operates with a minimal staff and virtually no other administrative expenses. All of the work is done by volunteers; consequently, all of the donated money is immediately available for its intended purpose and is not consumed by costly overhead.
